About Me

Who are you?

My name is Marcellus Miles (Marc). I’ve been a geek since the day my Mom bought the family a Commodore 64. However, I’ll spare you the time by not sharing yet another geek’s first adventures. Fast forward to 1997 as that is when I created my first web site leading to my current career. I had no idea that first web site would lead to a small sole proprietorship a year or so later with more requests than I could handle. I then either made the best decision in my life or the worst. I gave up on the business and took a full time job with a now defunct web consulting and development firm called Rare Medium in 1999.

Since that time I’ve developed numerous web sites from corporate web presences, corporate Intranets, health care taxonomies, health care content portals and too many others to list here.

Personal Interests

First and foremost I enjoy being a great dad to my two kids and a great husband to my wife. Aside from that I love good science fiction, games (on the PC or table top), any music (last.fm and pandora.com profiles) that is electronic as well as great acoustic guitar with or without great vocals. What I enjoy above all is educating myself and sharing what I learn with others. For some reason, if I’m not learning something new and trying to develop creative solutions and answers to problems I get bored very quickly!

Professional Interests

For the non geeks out there stop reading now and read this instead (your about to get lost in what you call tech babble).  I’ve been building things since I was a kid. I loved tearing apart spare radios, vcr’s, game consoles and the like to see what was under the hood. This has since evolved into learning about programming languages and diving into numerous API’s and SDK’s.

The last 8 years have been focused on implementing projects using Microsoft technologies such as Microsoft Content Management Server 2002, ASP.net, Windows SharePoint Services and MOSS 2007. I’ve been a development team manager of 6, a technical project manager for numerous projects and a software developer all while being an evangelist of technologies that are well done and have a good place in the market. See my LinkedIn profile for career specifics.

Academic Interests

I currently have an associates degree and moved around way too much to ever finish my undergrad. My interests are very broad (and to blame for why my education has taken so long) and include computer science, astronomy, psychology, philosophy and business.

I’m currently researching android application development.
